Making the Grade
The Missouri High School Athletics Association has established a grading standard that coaches need to follow that determine what grades a player can earn in order to be eligible for playing time during games the following season.
The standard says that you must have at least three credits credits from the previous semester meaning athletes had to have passed three out of seven classes.
Some coaches feel that these standards are the bare minimum and have decided to go farther than others meaning, depending on the sport, some players are benched for grades while others get to play. This story discuses how coaches and athletes feel on both sides of the issue.
Love for the Ice
Freshmen figure skater, Natalie Wegenka, shows her love and dedication for ice skating. As one of the only competitive youth female figure skaters in Springfield, MIssouri, Natalie struggles for ice time but hasn't lost her love or dedication for the sport.
